Pink fuzziness

A couple of week ago I showed my haul from the thriftstore for that day. On the bottom right you can just make out something pink & fuzzy: a small lambswool sweater. I had vague plans of turning it into a pillowcase. However, after washing it in the machine to make it more felted, I decided to turn it into wristwarmers (and maybe someday a pillowcase as well - there's plenty left).
I cut off the sleeves, cut a hole for the thumbs and added a little crochet edging with embroidery thread. Voila! (What took up most time is that I kept running out of thread. Note to self: next time, go out and buy some crochet thread; in the end it will only save time!)

Me likey. They are nice and soft and warm. And terribly girlish which I am perfectly entitled to in order not to be overrun by all this manly boystuff around :)

Een paar weken geleden liet ik mijn kringloopvangst van die dag zien. Helemaal rechts onderaan zie je nog net iets roze-en-wolligs: een klein lamswollen truitje. Ik had vage plannen om er een kussenhoesje van te maken. Maar nadat ik 'm had gewassen om hem wat meer te vervilten besloot ik om er polswarmers van te maken (en misschien ooit ook alsnog een kussenhoes - er is genoeg over).
Ik knipte de mouwen eraf, knipte een duimgat en haakte er een randje aan met borduurgaren. Voila! (Wat de meeste tijd kostte is dat ik steeds te kampen had met tekort aan garen. Voor de volgende keer: koop eerst haakgaren, dat kost me uiteindelijk minder tijd!)

Ik vind ze erg fijn. Lekker warm en zacht en ook nog vreselijk meisjesachtig, wat ik best wel mag ik dit huishouden vol mannenzaken jongensspullen vind ik :)

I made another felt cuff: this time it's in shades of brown and features the woodgrain on the trunk of a tree. Again strongly inspired by TAST, it's mostly made of chain stitches.
For sale in my shop ;)

Ik heb weer een vilten 'cuff ' gemaakt: deze keer in bruintinten met de het patroon van de schors op een boomstam. Weer geinspireerd door TAST is ie bijna alleen gemaakt van kettingsteken.

Here's a last thing I knit in 2011. After I had received this gift I had to make something with it, ofcourse. But because options are somewhat limited with just 2 balls, I re-started a bunch of times. Eventually I made a short scarf to wear under my coat. It's fairly wide, so there will be no 'cracks' for the wind to get into, and it can go once around my neck and double at my throat, where my coat closes over it. (I could also wear it with a pin.) It's nice and warm, so bring on the winter! (winter? what winter?)

Hier nog een laatste knutsel van 2011; op de valreep afgemaakt. Ik had natuurlijk dit cadeautje gekregen, en daar wilde ik graag iets van maken. Maar met 2 bolletjes zijn de opties beperkt, dus ik ben heel wat keren opnieuw begonnen. Uiteindelijk heb ik er een korte das van gemaakt voor onder mijn jas: hij is vrij breed dus geen kieren, en hij kan 1 keer om mijn nek en dan dubbel in mijn hals, waar ik mijn jas er overheen sluit. (Eventueel zou ik hem ook met een speld kunnen dragen.) Lekker warm, dus laat de winter maar komen! (eh winter? waar ben je dan?)

I love this yarn: Mythral. It's from Newzealand and it's super lovely!

Ik ben helemaal weg van dit garen: Mythral. Het komt uit Nieuwzeeland en is zo mooi!

The stitch used is 'Easy Mistake Stitch' and I found it here on The purl bee. It's very simple actually: just knit 2 purl 2 over an uneven number of stitches. End the row with either 1 knit or 1 purl stitch, and start the next row with knit 2 again. I like the result a lot: it looks a bit like Fisherman's Rib but looser and with less fuss :)

De gebruikte steek is 'Easy Mistake Stitch' en vond ik hier op The purl bee. Eigenlijk heel simpel: je breit 2 recht, 2 averecht over een oneven aantal steken. Je eindigt je naald dan dus met 1 recht (of averecht, dat maakt niet uit) en je volgende naald begin je gewoon weer met 2 recht. Het resultaat is erg leuk: het lijkt een beetje op patentsteek maar dan losser en minder gedoe :)

I am thrilled with the results! I would have liked to make it a bit longer, but have to admit that the way it turned out is very practical. I will enjoy wearing it :)

Ben er uiteindelijk heel blij mee! Ik had hem liever wat langer gemaakt, maar eigenlijk is dit ook wel heel praktisch. Ik zal hem met plezier gaan dragen :)

Christmas 2011

Just a few more minutes before it's christmas.
I can't wait for the holidays to be over this year. I just hope I will be able to enjoy them again next year.

But for now I just want to wish you all HAPPY HOLIDAYS: enjoy having your loved ones around you. And be kind to yourself :)

Nog een paar minuutjes... en dan is het echt kerst.
Kan niet wachten tot het weer voorbij is dit jaar. Ik zie er zo tegenop... Ik hoop dat ik er volgend jaar weer van zal kunnen genieten.

Maar voor nu wil ik iedereen FIJNE FEESTDAGEN wensen: geniet zoveel je kan van je dierbaren om je heen. En wees lief voor jezelf :)

Het was vandaag weer moeilijk om te kiezen, met die prachtige rijp op de planten. Dus heb ik lekker vals gespeeld en zijn het er drie geworden! *puh*
