Today I was enjoying our first real day of spring after a long dreary grey winter by taking photographs outside of some lovely new washi tapes for my shop when I got distracted by all the Spring happening around me :)


Ook zo genoten van de eerste echte lentedag na die grijze grauwe winter? Ik ging lekker in de tuin foto's maken van wat nieuwe washi tapejes voor mijn winkeltje, maar raakte afgeleid door al het Lenterigs om me heen :)

Recently I made this laptop bag for myself. I'm calling it a prototype since making it was a real learning experience and I made several mistakes. But I do like the results: it's practical (I use it everyday) and I LOVE the fabric (Ikea).

To make it I just cut a large rectangle out of outer fabric, batting and lining. I sewed up the sides, finished the top with matching red bias tape, sewed a pocket onto the front and sewed on the strap. That's it, really.

If I make another one I will take photos along the way so that I can post a tutorial. I think anyone with basic sewing skills could whip up one of these within an hour or two in the fabric of choice and to the exact size of your laptop or other gadget.

Laatst heb ik voor mezelf een laptoptas gemaakt. Ik noem het een prototype omdat het maken ervan nogal een  leerervaring was en ik een aantal fouten heb gemaakt. Maar toch ben ik tevreden met het resultaat: de tas is praktisch (ik gebruik 'm elke dag) en ik ben wild van het stofje (Ikea).

Om de tas te maken knipte ik simpelweg een rechthoek uit buitenstof, vulling en voering. Ik naaide de zijkanten vast, werkte de bovenkant af met bijpassend rode biasband,, naaide een zak op de voorkant en naaide de draagband erop. Dat was eigenlijk alles.

Als ik er nog één maak zal ik foto's maken van het proces zodat ik er een tutorial over kan posten. Ik denk dat iedereen met de basisvaardigheden van het naaien er eentje kan maken in een uurtje of twee, in de stof naar keuze en perfect passend voor je eigen laptop of andere gadget.

Today was a lovely sunny and summery day! It felt so good to finally sit in the sun wearing just a tanktop after this long winter (and I actually got a tad  sunburnt too!).

While sunbathing I made a bunch of these:


Vandaag was heerlijk zonnig en zomers! Het was zalig om eindelijk in een hemdje in de zon te kunnen zitten na die lange winter (ben zelfs een tikje verbrand!).

Tijdens het zonnebaden maakte ik wat van deze:

I add these to orders from my supplies shop. I used to have pretty business cards (from MOO; they are the best!) but at some point I ran out and thought: since I sell creative supplies, wouldn't it make sense to have something a bit more creative to make my customers remember me?


Ik voeg deze bij bestellingen van mijn materialen winkel. Vroeger had ik hele mooie visitekaartjes (van MOO; die zijn top!) maar op een gegeven moment waren die op en dacht ik: is het eigenlijk niet logischer om iets creatiefs bij mijn orders te voegen, aangezien ik ook creatieve materialen verkoop?

So I came up with these. The paper I bought a long time ago because I loved it, but I had no idea what to use it for; the thread is vintage crochet cotton; I bought the tag punch on ebay recently and the lovely stamp is by Miss Honeybird (she sells on Etsy too and has a huge selection of the cutest stamps).

Other things that made me happy today were the apple blossom:


Dus bedacht ik deze. Het papier kocht ik lang geleden en had geen idee waarvoor behalve dat ik het mooi vond; het draad is vintage haakkatoen; de label pons kocht ik recentelijk op ebay en de geweldige stempel is van Miss Honeybird (ze heeft ook een Etsy winkel en verkoopt een heleboel superleuke stempels).

A new look

I have been tinkering with my blog's design a bit: a new template, some new colours, an updated header and some tiny social media buttons.
I was aiming for a bit of a fresh & spring-like feel.
What do you think?

Ik ben wat aan het rommelen geweest met het uiterlijk van mijn blog: een nieuwe template, wat nieuwe kleurtjes, een aangepaste header en wat piepkleine 'social media' knopjes.

Somewhere last week I finished something I had been embroidering on for a while. I have been totally absorbed in embroidery sinde I first joined TAST at the beginning of this year and I have to admit, since finishing this piece I am just a little fed up with it. For now, because I'm sure it will come back!

Ergens vorige week heb ik iets afgemaakt waar ik al een heel tijdje op aan het borduren was. Ik ben helemaal into borduren sinds ik begon met TAST aan het begin van dit jaar, en ik moet eerlijk zeggen dat ik het, sinds deze af is, er wel een beetje mee heb gehad. Voor nu dan, want het komt vast wel weer terug!

I had intended this to be a Tutorial so when I started I took tons of pictures, but as it progressed I kept forgetting to make more. So now it's Sort Of A Tutorial.
I started with two pieces of felt for the outside, and two pieces of a very soft fabric for the inside (to protect the glass), a button, a bit of felt for the tag with the buttonhole in it, and some felt shapes. All the felt and the button were part of a recent gift I received, and I liked the idea of using them together to create something really REALLY bright and colourful.

Dit had eigenlijk een Tutorial moeten worden, maar ik vergat steeds foto's te maken dus is het nu maar Een Soort Van Tutorial.
Ik begon met 2 lapjes vilt voor de buitenkant, 2 hele zachte stukjes stof voor de binnenkant, een klein stukje vilt voor het flapje met het knoopsgat, en wat vilten vormpjes. Al het vilt en de knoop waren deel van een heel lief kadotje dat ik laatst kreeg, dus ik wilde ze graag samen gebruiken voor iets heel, HEEL kleurigs.

First I embellished the felt pieces (here's where I forgot to take pics). This took up the most time.
Then I used a buttonhole stitch to sew each layer of felt to a layer of the fabric for the lining. On one of them I  sewed the tag piece by placing it between the two layers before stitching.

Eerst versierde ik het vilt (hier heb ik dus geen foto's van), dit koste me de meeste tijd.
Daarna naaide ik met een festonsteek elk lapje vilt op een lapje van de voeringstof. Tussenuit 1 ervan naaide ik het flapje voor de sluiting.

Then I used a simple running stitch to stitch everything together, leaving open one of the shorter sides, and a bit extra down the longer sides (for easy access).

Daarna naaide ik de twee delen met een stiksteek op elkaar, maar liet 1 van de korte kanten open, samen met een klein stikje van de lange kanten (om makkelijk de bril eruit te kunnen halen).

Lastly I cut the buttonhole in the tag and sewed the button in place. I have to admit I'm not completely happy with this bit, might have to change it someday.

Als laatste knipte ik het knoopsgat in het flapje en naaide de knoop op z'n plaats. Ik ben hier niet helemaal tevreden over, misschien dat ik dit nog eens zal aanpassen.

It's not exactly a glasses case (more of a glasses cozy) since there's no padding, but all the felt and fabric layers make it pretty sturdy so I feel comfortable putting my glasses in there.

Het is niet helemaal een brillendoos (meer een brillenmapje), aangezien er geen vulling in zit, maar alle lagen stof en vilt maken het toch een vrij stevig geheel dus ik heb wel het idee dat mijn brillen er veilig in zijn.

Weer een vilten 'cuff'.
Deze keer in lavendel blauw-paars met wit, roze en donkerpaars borduursel, gevoerd met lichtgrijs vilt en sluit met een roze 'vintage' knoop.

Appelboom deel 1

Ik heb afgelopen herft een appelboompje gekregen. De hele winter heeft ie zielig staan zijn maar laatst is hij dan eindelijk in onze tuin geplant. Leuk voor Grote Broer, want die is gek op appels en dan leert het stadskind meteen dat eten niet in de supermarkt wordt gemaakt, zo dachten we. Het is een leiboompje, en heeft in een pot gestaan dus lijkt ie in onze megatuin (naar randstadse begrippen althans) wel heeel erg klein en nog steeds een beetje zielig.
Maar nu begint hij echt uit te lopen, en ben ik degene die het opeens heel spannend vind! Zou hij nog gaan bloeien dit jaar? Wat voor kleur eigenlijk? En wat voor appels zouden eraan komen? Hoeveel? Zullen ze lekker zijn? En is het eigenlijk wel normaal dat er allemaal groene en witte aanslag op de takken zit? Betekent dit dat ie alsnog dood gaat?
Ik ben zo gek op mijn tuin, zeker met weer zoals vandaag :)

I was given an appletree last autumn. It's been looking sad all winter but recently we finally got around to planting it. For Big Brother, because he loves apples and it would be good for the city kid in him to learn that food isn't created in the supermarket, or so we thought.
Now it started coming back to life and I find myself being the one who is excited with the prospects: will it blossom this year? what colour? and what kind of apples will it give? how many? how will they taste? and is it normal that is has this green and white mould on it's bark? or does that mean it's going to die after all?
I do so enjoy my garden, especially with the kind of weather we're having today :)

Ik heb de hele lange koude winter met alle prachtige sneeuw gemist, maar nu de tuin weer tot leven komt gaan we gewoon weer verder. Vandaag weer eens mijn Helleborus in de picture, nu vol met bloemen:
