For the Craft Fair I did in october (for which I still owe you a report - sorry!) I made a bunch of these bunting lines.
I liked them a lot but didn't sell any so now I am offering them for sale through either my etsy or dawanda shop, or just email me if you're interested.

I made them in 2 colourways (well actually my mother helped out and ended up doing most of the stitching on these).
These measure over 2,5 meters in total, with 8 flags each that are about 20 cm long.

Voor de Creamarkt die ik deed in oktober (en waarvan ik jullie nog steeds een verslag schuldig ben - sorry!) maakte ik een stel van deze vlaggenslingers.
Ik vond ze zelf erg leuk maar ze zijn niet verkocht dus nu bied ik ze aan via mijn etsy en dawanda winkels en via marktplaats, of email me als je interesse hebt.

Ik heb ze in 2 kleurstellingen gemaakt (eigenlijk heeft mijn moeder, die me hielp, het meeste naaiwerk gedaan).
Ze zijn in totaal ruim 2,5 meter lang, met 8 vlaggen die elk ongeveer 20 cm hoog zijn.

Het is ook mogelijk een slinger te bestellen die ik speciaal naar jouw wensen maak.

I made another needlebook; this one was supposed to be a gift for Sinterklaas but I had forgotten to bring it with me, so now I'm giving it this evening.
This one is a lot more photogenic than the last! Still I'm not sure if I should call it purple or blue.
It's made of sprookjesvilt or 'fairy felt' and I handstitched around the edges with buttonhole stitch. I used pinking scissors for the inside 'pages', added a couple of needles and wrapped it up with a length of embroidery thread in the colour I used.

I'm considering whether or not to make a bunch of these for my next craft fair, what do you think?

Ik maakte nog een naaldenboekje; deze was bedoeld voor 5 december maar ik was 'm vergeten mee te nemen... Dus krijgt ze hem vanavond.
Deze is wat fotogenieker dan de vorige! Maar ik kan alleen niet besluiten of het nou paars is of blauw.
Het is gemaakt van sprookjesvilt en rondom gefestonneerd met borduurgaren. Deze keer heb ik de 'blaadjes' met een kartelschaar geknipt. Een paar naalden erin en een stukje bijpassend borduurdraad eromheen geknoopt en klaar.

Ik denk erover om er een stel te maken voor mijn volgende creamarkt: wat denk jij?

So I have 'officially' started my own small business. I love to create, to make and design things, to teach others and to pass along the joy of crafting. So I thought it would be natural for me to start a business doing just that: create things, sell handmade items and a few supplies, and teaching others through workshops.
As it turns out, it is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be, and the reason for this is the 'business' part. It turns out I have absolutely no affinity with the whole marketing side of being a small business owner. I hate having to 'sell' myself or my work. To tell people they have to book me because I am the best or whatever... I suck at that. So I don't. I haven't put up any advertising for myself apart from the website (which people don't find because I suck at SEO too).
And so it is still very quiet. Haven't had a single booking yet. And I feel stuck between doing what I love (creating) and getting nowhere, and having to do what I seriously dislike in order to be able to keep doing what I love. Because money is an issue too, ofcourse, and I can't keep going like this forever: eventually I would have to look for a 'real' job.

Anyway. Apologies for the rant :) Ofcourse I am grateful for this opportunity: I guess I'm just being a little down because the initial excitement of starting my own busness has worn off and now comes the real work of building a reputation. 


Dus, nu ben ik 'officieel' een eenmanszaak. Ik hou van dingen maken, bedenken, om aan anderen te leren en het plezier ervan over te brengen. Dus het leek me een logische stap om een bedrijfje te beginnen waarmee ik handgemaakte spulletjes verkoop, wat materialen maar bovenal om creatieve workshops te geven.
Maar in de praktijk blijkt het me nogal tegen te vallen, en de reden daarvoor is het stukje 'zakelijk'. Ik blijk absoluut geen affiniteit te hebben met het marketing-gedeelte: ik haat het om mezelf te moeten 'verkopen' en om mensen te vertellen dat ze mij moeten boeken omdat ik zo geweldig ben... Ik ben daar op zijn zachtst gezegd niet goed in. Dus doe ik het niet. Afgezien van mijn website (die ook niet gevonden wordt want SEO kan ik ook niet) heb ik nog helemaal geen naamsbekendheid opgebouwd. 
Dus is het nog steeds heel erg stil. Geen enkele boeking gehad. En ik voel me klem zitten tussen doen waarvan ik hou (creëren) en doen waar ik een hekel aan heb maar wat ik wel moet, om te kunnen blijven doen waarvan ik hou. Want natuurlijk is geld ook een kwestie, en ik kan dit zo niet eindeloos volhouden: uiteindelijk zou ik een 'echte' baan moeten zoeken.

Maar goed. Sorry voor de tirade :) Natuurlijk ben ik dankbaar voor deze kans: ik denk dat ik gewoon een dipje heb nu de eerste opwinding van het inschrijven van mijn eigen zaak gezakt is en het echte werk begint om een reputatie te verwerven.

Something different now: I made both Big Brother and Little Brother wristwarmers. I used the pattern from the green dragonfly via Pinterest. And they both love them (Little Brother would wear them all day if he could, even in bed!)

Iets heel anders: ik heb voor zowel Grote Broer en Kleine Broer polswarmertjes gehaakt. Patroon van hier via Pinterest. En ze zijn er allebei erg blij mee (Kleine Broer draagt ze het liefst de hele dag en zelfs in bed!).

* Owl pattern - finally online!

After all the help I got testing the pattern I FINALLY got around to finishing the pdf and putting the pattern online!
I had a hard time deciding whether or not to make it available as a free download, but in the end I decided against it. So now it's for sale in my etsy shop for only € 2,50 here!
I plan to make many more patterns and some of these I will make available for free here on my blog. I am also in the process of making complete kits for the owls, and I have a couple of them that I made myself and that would like new homes. So watch for updates!

On the crafty front I have been having a bad case of startitis: I keep starting new projects (crocheting, sewing, another patchwork blanket even!) but nothing is getting finished just yet. Maybe tomorrow... if I can stick to it long enough ;)

Na alle hulp die ik kreeg bij het testen van mijn patroon heb ik nu EINDELIJK de pdf afgemaakt en staat ie online!
Ik vond het een moeilijke beslissing maar uiteindelijk heb ik ervoor gekozen om hem niet gratis op mijn blog te zetten maar te verkopen voor maar € 2,50 hier via mijn Etsy shop.
Ik ben van plan om nog veel meer patronen te maken en sommige daarvan zullen hier op mijn blog gratis te downloaden zijn.
Ook ben ik bezig met het maken van DHZ-kits van de uiltjes, en ik heb er hier ook nog een paar liggen die ik zelf heb gemaakt en die nog een nieuw thuis zoeken. Dus blijf in de buurt voor updates!

Op knutselgebied ben ik op het moment heel veel aan het beginnen en niets afmaken (haken, naaien, zelfs een nieuwe patchworkdeken!) Misschien dat ik morgen iets af heb en kan laten zien... als ik mezelf er lang genoeg op kan focussen tenminste ;)

... my new identity! Or rather, my blog's new identity.
I decided I needed to clear things up a little, so now I named my (personal) crafty blog Audrey B. (since that's my name :) and use that same name everywhere: for my FlickR, Pinterest etc.
Studio Paars is the name of my business (officially now - yay!) for teaching workshops and selling handmade items.
There will be a bit of an overlap now and then but I will just deal with that when it happens.
I updated all the icons and the links in the top right corner - feel free to check them out!

On a completely unrelated topic, I posted a year ago about how excited I was to have 100 followers on my Pinterest page - and now there are 1000! WOW! I mean, how did that happen?

Hier is ie dan: de nieuwe versie van mijn blog!
Ik heb alles een beetje opgeschoond, dus nu heet mijn persoonlijke crafty blog Audrey B. (want zo het ik nou eenmaal :) en die naam gebruik ik verder overal, zoald op FlickR, Pinterest enz.
Studio Paars is de naam van mijn bedrijfje (nu ook officieel - yay!) in het geven wan creatieve workshop en het verkopen van handgemaakte dingen.
Soms zal er een kleine overlap zijn maar ik zie wel hoe ik dat oplos wanneer het zich voordoet.
Alle icoontjes rechtsboven zijn ook ge-update dus probeer ze maar uit!

Een volkomen ander onderwerp: een jaar geleden plaatste ik een berichtje over hoe leuk ik het vond om 100 volgers te hebben op mijn Pinterest pagina - en nu zijn het er meer dan 1000! WAUW! Wat is er gebeurd?
Een dikke *knuffel* voor iedereen die mij volgt  ♥
