It seems I have been on a bit of a shopping spree lately! I'm done now, I promise. But it has been great having several packages arrive in the mail these past days, and all for me :-D
De laatste tijd heb ik een beetje veel besteld! Nu ben ik klaar, echt waar. Maar het was wel even leuk om steeds pakjes in de post te vinden, en nog wel helemaal voor mezelf :-D

First, I ordered some stamps from MissHoneyBird on Etsy. I love her stamps and designs, and when I ordered from her before I was pleasantly surprised by the added extras and the lovely packaging. And this time was no different, see:
Eerst bestelde ik een paar stempeltjes bij MissHoneyBird op Etsy. Ik had al eerder iets bij haar besteld, en het was superleuk ingepakt met allerlei extra'tjes. En deze keer was het niet anders, kijk maar: 

Then I ordered some yarn for a scarf I want to make (more on that later). I looked around for quite a while and ended up with Lace Merino Print from Lana Grossa, ordered from here. The yarn is lovely, soft and silky, but the colours were a little different from what I was expecting. I think I can make it work out though.

Toen bestelde ik wolletjes voor een sjaal (meer daarover een andere keer). Ik heb een hele tijd gezocht en uiteindelijk kwam ik uit bij Lace Merino Print van Lana Grossa, en ik bestelde het hier. De wol is prachtig, zacht en soepel, maar de kleuren waren wel een beetje anders dan ik had verwacht. Maar ik denk dat ik er wel wat mee kan.

And then I wanted to try something new. I never embroidered with anything other than stranded DMC floss, so I was looking for something like Perle Cotton to try. Also, I wanted to give variegated thread a try.
So when I came across this store on Etsy I had to give these a try. At €18 for 24 balls I couldn't resist! They did take a while to get to Holland from Paraguay(!) but that was to be expected.
I haven't tried them yet but they sure look lovely! (there are 2 balls each of 12 different colourways)

En toen wilde ik eens wat nieuws proberen. Ik heb tot nu toe alleen met DMC splitgaren geborduurd, dus ik was op zoek naar iets van Perle Coton ofzo om uit te proberen, en ook wilde ik eens iets doen met veelkleurig garen.
Dus toen ik deze Etsy shop vond moest ik deze wel proberen! Ik betaalde uiteindelijk (inclusief verzenden) €18 voor 24 ballen. Het duurde wel even voor ze hier waren uit Paraguay(!) maar dat verwachtte ik ook wel. 
Ik heb ze nog niet gebruikt maar ze zien er mooi uit. Er zijn 2 balletjes elk in 12 verschilldende kleurstellingen. 

And lastly I received a gift from my lovely sister, who recently returned from a vacation in the french Provence (lucky her!). It is a block of french olive soap, to use for felting. It smells soooo good, I can't wait to give it a try!

En als laatste kreeg ik een cadeautje van mijn lieve zus die op vakantie was geweest in de Provence (geluksvogel!). Het is een blok franse olijf zeep, om te gebruiken voor het natvilten. 
Het ruikt echt super lekker, ik kan niet wachten om ermee aan de slag te gaan!

I LOVE lil fish studio! Lisa Jordan is an amazing textile artist and everything she makes, clearly inspired by nature, is incredibly beautiful. If you don't know her, please have a look around her blog.
She makes these sweet little detailed embroidered felted stones and even has a has a tutorial on her blog for the felting part. Following her instructions (more or less) I tried felting a couple of stones.
I found it a lot harder than I thought it would be. On one of the stones the felt just refused to stay together and I had to try stitching it back together after it dried. Pretty much a total fail (see below).

The other one felted nicely, and then just lay there being a nice but plain grey fuzzy felted stone. So last night I tried embroidering on it. This was also a lot harder than I expected: because the layer of felt is uneven my stitches seemed to have a mind of their own and refused to go where I wanted them to. But I like the result: nowhere near perfect but still it's a soft sweet little object. 
The best part: when Big Brother spotted it he lifted it in his hand and said: "Is this a rock? It IS a rock! Can I have it?". I explained to him this was just my first try and I wanted to keep it so that I could learn from it. So now he has requested one for himself. A blue one. The best compliment I could hope for :)

Ik ben GEK op lil fish studio! Lisa Jordan is een geweldige 'textile artist' en alles wat ze maakt is zichtbaar geïnspireerd door de natuur en ongelofelijk mooi. Als je haar niet kent moet je echt even een kijkje nemen op haar blog.
Ze maakt hele mooie gedetailleerde geborduurde gevilte stenen en ze maakte zelfs een tutorial voor het vilt-gedeelte. Haar tutorial volgend (min of meer) probeerde ik ook een paar stenen te vilten.
Het bleek een stuk moeilijker dan ik had gedacht: bij één van de stenen wilde de wol niet aan elkaar blijven plakken en heb ik het na het drogen geprobeerd aan elkaar te stikken. Dat was geen succes (zie foto's).

De andere verviltte wel goed, en toen 'ie klaar was lag 'ie daar een beetje mooi maar saai zacht grijs te wezen. Dus gisteravond probeerde ik 'm te borduren. Ook dit was lastiger dan ik had verwacht: omdat de laag vilt nogal onregelmatig is wilde mijn steken gewoon niet daarheen waar ik ze wilde hebben. Maar ik ben blij met het resultaat: verre van perfect maar toch is het een mooi zacht en wollig dingetje.
En helemaal leuk: toen Grote Broer 'm zag liggen pakte hij 'm op en zei: "Is dit een steen? Het IS een steen! Mag ik 'm hebben?". Ik legde uit dat dit mijn eerste probeersel was en dat ik er nog van wilde leren. Dus nu heeft 'ie er één voor zichzelf besteld. Een blauwe. Het mooiste compliment :)

Toen ik pas zwanger was van Kleine Broer kocht ik bij Sari een pakketje om zelf deze 'elfen' slofjes te vilten. Ik weet niet meer van wie het pakket was, alleen dat ze er inmiddels mee gestopt waren en dat het pakketje dus heel goedkoop was.

When I was only just recently pregnant with Little Brother, I bought a set of pattern and materials to wet-felt these 'fairy' slippers at Sari.

Mijn eerste keer natvilten (afgezien van wat kralen dan). Ik was helemaal verliefd op het resultaat! Vond ze alleen wat groot, dus na eindeloos met de hand te hebben staan vilten heb ik ze ook nog even in de wasmachine mee laten draaien. Met goed resultaat.
Alleen toen maanden later de trotse eigenaar van de slofjes geboren werd, bleken ze toch niet te passen. Zijn voetjes konden de draai niet maken.
Maar als decoratie in de babykamer vind ik ze nog steeds geweldig ;)

It was my first try at wetfelting (besides some beads). I was totally in love with the results! They seemed to be a little on the small side though, so I decided to put them for a spin in the washing machine. With good results I must say.
But when the proud new owner was finally born a few months later, I found they didn't fit. His feet weren't too big, but I couldn't get them to make the twist to get into the slippers.
Purely decorational as they now sit in the nursery I still love them though :)
