A little boy who's nuts about mushrooms has his birthday coming up, and besides getting him a 'real' present I wanted to make him a mushroom. Since he's turning 2 it needed to be pretty sturdy, and in bright fairy-tale-mushroom colours.
(this one is loosely based on the mushrooms of my tutorial)

Een klein jongetje dat helemaal gek is van paddestoelen is binnenkort jarig, en naast zijn 'echte' kado wilde ik graag een paddestoel voor hem maken. Hij wordt 2 dus moest het lekker stevig worden, en in echte sprookjes-paddestoelen kleuren.
(deze is grofweg hetzelfde als de paddestoelen van mijn tutorial)

EDIT: he loved it! fell asleep clutching it in his hands :)

EDIT: hij vond 'm geweldig! viel in slaap met de paddestoel in z'n handje geklemd :)

It's been a year since this party, so there will be another one soon. But more about that later on.
Ofcourse I had to make some gifts at the last moment so I spent an evening at my sewing machine to make this:


Dit feestje is alweer een jaar geleden, dus komt er binnenkort een nieuw feestje. Maar daarover later meer.
Er moesten natuurlijk op het laatste moment zelfgemaakte cadeautjes komen, dus heb ik een avondje achter de naaimachine gezeten om dit te maken:

They're beanbags. I filled them with dried peas so they have a nice feel to them. I considered giving them a separate removable inside sleeve but decided against it in the end. I reasoned that, if one should get very wet or dirty I could whip up a new one in no time.


Het zijn 'beanbags' (of pittenzakjes). Ze zijn gevuld met gedroogde erwten dus voelen lekker aan. Ik heb nog overwogen om ze een apart binnenzakje te geven zodat je die eruit kon halen om de buitenkant te wassen, maar dat heb ik uiteindelijk toch maar niet gedaan (mocht er 1 helemaal vies en nat worden en niet meer te redden zijn heb ik zo een nieuwe gemaakt).

I decided on rainbow-coloured fabrics (and a grey one because I really liked it). I got some new from the store (the orange, yellow and grey), some came from old swaps (the red, blue and purple) and the green one I had laying around. I made the back from some leftover bit of ikea-curtain (thick off-white cotton).


Ik heb stofjes in de kleuren van de regenboog uitgekozen (en dan nog 1 grijze omdat mama die zelf zo leuk vond). Een aantal heb ik er nieuw voor gekocht (oranje, geel en grijs), een aantal kwam uit oude lapjes-swaps (rood, blauw en paars) en de groene had ik zelf nog liggen. De achterkanten zijn hetzelfde, van een overgebleven stuk ikea-gordijn (wat dikkere ecru katoen).

I didn't come up with the idea myself, but I don't remember where I first saw it online. There are similar ones all over blogland.
And the first one took me about an hour and a half, but so did the other six. So the whole project took me 3 hours (including picking fabrics and cutting) and now I have an nice handmade present. Fingers crossed he'll play with it...


Het idee is niet origineel, ik heb het al vaker in blogland gezien maar ik weet niet meer precies waar ik het zelf voor het eerst tegenkwam.
En het eerste zakje kostte me anderhalf uur, maar de andere zes had ik anderhalf uur later ook af. Dus 3 uurtjes werk (inclusief lapjes zoeken en knippen) voor een uniek handgemaakt cadeau. En nu maar hopen dat 'ie ermee speelt...
